By Dave Snider and Summer Ohlendorf, National Tsunami Warning Center
The 2026 National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC) LANTEX exercise is set for Wednesday, Nov 4th, 2026.
The exercise will run from 12:30p.m. – 3:15p.m. EST, during which NTWC will provide realistic event information flow and partner decision support through emailed exercise bulletins, hourly Google Meet event briefings, and real-time chat with operational partners in this #nws-tsunami-atlantic-partners channel.
This year’s scenario involves a M6.9 earthquake located offshore Miami, FL, which triggers a tsunami warning along the Atlantic coastline of Florida, including the Florida Keys.

This smaller-scale exercise was inspired by June 8th’s M6.1 intraplate thrust earthquake offshore of Cuba, which was felt widely in southern Florida and occurred on a previously unmapped fault. This year we are taking steps to improve our contact management. Partners are encouraged to sign-up using our new Google Form. This will help us better track and organize our participant information and ensure proper communications moving forward.
